Member Spotlight: Larry Beck, Samaritan Board of Directors
Handling health care through Samaritan Ministries “really is biblical community in a way that you don’t get to see at any other place,” said Larry Beck, newly elected member of the Samaritan Board of Directors.
“Bearing each other’s burdens is biblical, and I love the idea of that discipline,” he said. “It’s hard to find that acted out in a more direct way than what we see here.”
Larry and his wife, Sheryl, were looking into another health care sharing ministry when they came across Samaritan.
“Health care is different when you’re self-employed,” said the owner of his own homebuilding company in the Dallas, Texas, area. “At times, I’ve had the opportunity to take health insurance, but we stuck with Samaritan.”
One of those reasons the Becks have remained with Samaritan is so they don’t have to support unbiblical practices, like abortion.
“I love the heart of the ministry,” Larry said.
The largest Need he and Sheryl have had was after they were in a car accident.
“Sharing was great,” he said. “We didn’t really have any issues. When you’re going through that and seeing all these bills coming in and you’ve never actually seen the process work, you know you’re about to find out what’s going on here. But it was great.”
