Why SMI? 'Sharing in prayer means so much,' David Foucachon says

One of David Foucachon’s favorite aspects of Samaritan Ministries membership is sending and receiving Shares with encouraging notes to or from other members. David, his wife, Anne, and their five children enjoy lifting up other members in prayer each month with their Share.

“So far, we have been primarily on the sending end, but it’s just the fact that you’re sharing each other’s burdens not only financially, but also in prayer that means so much,” the new Board of Directors member said. “I think that’s a really neat aspect of our model.”

The Foucachons also appreciate how Samaritan gives their family health care freedom and treats them as valued members rather than beneficiaries. The decentralized nature of the sharing system also means Samaritan members genuinely are self-pay, David said.

“My family joined Samaritan Ministries because we wanted to be part of the solution of biblical health care reformation, and that happens every month in tiny, incremental ways that are both visible and invisible,” David said.

“Every time a Samaritan member sends a prayer note with their Share, that’s a concrete reminder that this isn’t ‘cheap insurance’—this is what the Body of Christ is called to do,” he said. “And every time a Samaritan member pays a provider themselves, that sends a price signal, a financial message that says that the patient is the customer—not the government or a quasi-government insurance company.”

As the CEO of Veritas Surgery, David interacts every day with providers who want to escape the financially broken medical system and with buyers who already have.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the option that faithful ministries like Samaritan represent for both,” David said.
