What are ‘legal’ Christmas activities?

Christian Law Association in Florida reminds believers that “the following Christmas activities are fully constitutional and may be practiced without fear of violating the newly imposed legal doctrine of ‘separation of church and state.'”
- Your children may sing Christmas music during holiday concerts in their school, and your community or workplace is not required to ban religious content from public holiday celebrations.
- Children may give religious gifts to their teachers, just as government workers and other employees may distribute religious greetings to co-workers or decorate their private offices with religious holiday displays.
- A public school teacher may teach objectively about the religious origins or Christmas and students may write about their own Christmas observations or discuss them in a class presentation.
- A public school or local community may include religious items in a holiday display.
The CLA also points out ways in which Christians can honor Jesus at Christmastime:
- Christians should make sure to get the message—that speaking about Christmas is legal—out to as many people as possible.
- Church members should write letters to newspaper editors to make sure other citizens understand that talking about Christmas is still legal.
- Encourage your church and church members to place religious holiday decorations both outside and inside their homes, private businesses, and churches.
- Vocally support elected officials and school personnel who are advocates for Christmas, including city council and school board members, by writing letters an dtelling others.
- Commend those businesses, stores, and schools that continue to display religious symbols of Christmas and to greet customers with “Merry Christmas.”
- Christians who are government officials should not be misled or intimidated by threats from those who misrepresent the law in regards to Christmas decorations or celebrations.
