The reason for the season … of Advent

It’s easy to get irritated by the earliness of Christmas-related sales, but there’s nothing wrong with preparing ourselves for the most beloved Christian festival.

That’s what Advent is about: preparation, being ready. A month of spiritual readiness for celebrating the first coming of the Lord and, in a way, reminding ourselves about the Second Coming.

Kathy Overman, the wife of Samaritan Ministries member Christian Overman, has published a book to help families and individuals in that preparation. It’s called Fun Family Christmas Devotions: Advent Guide for Busy Parents. The book features guidance on setting up Advent candles and how to use each of them to teach Biblical truth, as well as family devotions to use during the season.

As per the title, Christmas preparation and dinner activities are offered, too.

Music is a big part of Fun Family Christmas Devotions. An included CD of music has Christmas and Advent songs, with lyrics in the book.
