Only let your manner of life be worthy of the Gospel of Christ … standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the Gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.
Philippians 1:27-28
Not frightened in anything by your opponents—
Striving side by side for the faith of the Gospel—
Standing firm in one spirit.
In Kenneth S. Wuest’s expanded translation of the New Testament, verse 28 says, “And do not be terrified in even one thing by those who are entrenched in their opposition against you…”
Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” Our confident trust and obedience to Jesus Christ in the face of opposition is a clear sign to the opponents of our faith of their destruction and of our salvation from God.
We must not be intimidated or silenced. We must oppose evil and falsehood when we encounter it. Our God is able to give us the words to say and the actions to take, if we put our confidence in Him.
