Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive against them.
Proverbs 28:4
“There’s nothing we can do. They won’t listen.” How often have we seen something wrong in our communities or our country and said this? It is not a virtue to see something wrong and do nothing but complain or cower in fear and hopelessness. What should we do?
The first thing we should do, instead of complaining or gossiping, is pray. Ephesians 6:10-20 tells us that we are in a battle, and we need to prepare ourselves for battle, prayerfully responding to the attacks of the evil one.
Second Corinthians 10:3-10 gives further insight into how we are to strive against the wicked. There are many ways to fight in a Biblical way. Sharing the Gospel with a neighbor, adopting a child, making an appeal to an elected official in writing or in person, writing a letter to the editor, speaking up at a city council meeting, running for office, are just a few examples of ways we can strive against the wicked. Even something as simple as joining a health care sharing ministry can be a way of refusing to passively support evil.
We must contend for righteousness. We can face our opponents without fear, depending on our Lord. The righteous strive against the wicked.
