The Doorpost: The time is short

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
Near the end of his life, in his final letter to Timothy, his “son in the faith,” the Apostle Paul warned of a coming time like we are seeing today when people would not listen to Biblical teaching but would find teachers, even in the Church, who would tell them what they wanted to hear.
How did Paul say to prepare? In the previous verse Paul instructs Timothy to “preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”
In these challenging times, it is even more urgent that we speak God’s Word to others whenever we can—when it’s convenient and when it’s not. We need to be patient, not harsh, but we need to be ready while they may still listen. Many will turn away from listening to the truth and choose teachers whose teaching makes them feel good. We should not miss any opportunity while there is time.
