The Doorpost: Seeking light amidst darkness

By Ray King  ·  Mar 22, 2023

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:5b-7

If we claim to have fellowship with God while not walking in the light of His Word, we are lying and not practicing the truth, whether as individuals, as a group, or as a nation.

John goes on to warn that, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” When we are not admitting our sin, we will believe our own lie. What can we do?

The next verse indicates that seeking exposure to the Light is the only remedy. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

After confessing our sins to God, we may also need help from other believers (James 5:16). Then we should seek to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, filling them with the Light (Romans 12:2).

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. Anything else is deception.
