Remain connected to Jesus

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

A branch that is not connected to its vine doesn’t bear fruit. It is dry and lifeless. That is how we are if we are apart from Jesus. We can do nothing.

When we do things without abiding in Him, our efforts are futile. Remaining connected to Jesus, depending on Him, is the only way to have genuine growth and fruitfulness.

How can we tell if we are abiding in Him? What do we do when we face a challenge? Do we just try harder? Do we give up? Or do we cry out, depending on Him? He will give us what we need when we remain connected to Him.

“And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears we may have confidence and not shrink from Him in shame at His coming” (1 John 2:28).

We can’t do anything of true value apart from Jesus. Not even a little bit.

Nothing.
