The Lord is good,
a stronghold in the day of trouble;
He knows those who take refuge in Him
Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good. People who believe the Lord is good obey Him and take refuge in Him. David was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). Throughout his life he took refuge in God. Even when his sin against Uriah and Bathsheba was exposed (2 Samuel 12:13), he took refuge in the Lord.

Believing that God is good and taking refuge in Him has eternal importance. Those who don’t believe God is good depend on things, other people, or themselves for their refuge. Sometimes they depend on their own good works. In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus says that at the final judgment, He will tell many who think that they have been serving Him, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.”

The Lord knows those who take refuge in Him.
