The Doorpost: Jesus Christ is God (Colossians 1)
By Ray King · Nov 13, 2013
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.
Colossians 1:15-20
The passage above is talking about Jesus Christ. Probably all of us have talked to someone who has said something like, “I believe Jesus was a great teacher or a great prophet. But I don’t believe He was God.” The Bible does not allow this possibility.
Even we as Christians need to be careful. We know that the Son subordinates Himself to the Father, so we may unwittingly start to think or act like Jesus is a little less than fully God.
In the passages we considered the past two weeks (here and here), we were told to depend on Jesus Christ, not on the basic principles of the world. Please take time to meditate on the passage above. Do it often. All the fullness of God is found in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We must never fail to depend on Him.
