The Doorpost: Do you continually bless and praise God?

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psalm 34:1

Do you bless the Lord at all times? Is praise for Him continually in your mouth?

Jesus said that whatever fills our hearts is what comes out of our mouths (Luke 6:45).

After Job had lost everything, he fell to the ground worshipping God and said, “… blessed be the Name of the LORD” (Job 1:21).

In the middle of a disastrous time, the prophet Habakkuk wrote, “Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail, and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:17-18).

The Apostle Paul faced continual hardships and persecutions throughout his ministry (2 Corinthians 6:4-5). He said persecution is normal for everyone who desires to follow Christ (2 Timothy 3:12). Yet he wrote, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice” (Philippians 4:4).

Even when David was being continually pursued by Saul, the king of Israel, his heart was filled with worship of God and he said, “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psalm 34:1).

That should be true for us, as well. A heart filled with praise will result in a mouth filled with praise.
