The Doorpost: Come to our gentle God

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

The ones who receive rest from Jesus Christ are those who come to Him. God has hidden this from those who depend on their own wisdom, strength, and understanding. Jesus is gentle and eager to give to those who come to Him because they realize their burden is too great to carry on their own.

Do you lack wisdom? James 1:5 says we should ask God, Who gives to all without finding fault. We only need to have the faith to come to Him.

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus promises, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” He then goes on to say in verse 11, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

In Jeremiah 33:3, God tells the prophet, “Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” All he had to do was come and call to Him.

Jesus is gentle and lowly in heart. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. He gives generously and without finding fault. He gives good gifts to those who ask, more than we can know.

All we must do is be willing to come to Him.
