The Doorpost: Cling to the Word
By Ray King · Jun 22, 2021
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
In Paul’s final letter to Timothy, his “son in the faith,” he warned of a coming time when people would turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. In a previous verse, he urgently charged Timothy in the presence of God and Christ Jesus to “preach the Word.” As we face the challenges confronting us, we need to steadfastly cling to that same Word.
In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Paul tells us that, ”All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
Through the Holy Spirit, God gave us the Scriptures to protect, strengthen, and equip us with the truth so we don’t turn away and wander off into myths, following false teachers and their teachings. Only by clinging to the truth found in His Word can we be saved from following them.
