The August Doorpost

For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of My Name.
Acts 9:16

In verse 15 of Acts 9 the Lord said, “He [Saul, who later was renamed Paul] is a chosen instrument of Mine to carry My Name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.” Then He made the statement above. How would you like to have started your walk with Christ with that promise?

Later in his life, in Colossians 1:24, Paul says, “I rejoice in my sufferings for Your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of His Body, that is, the Church.”

Other places in Scripture tell us that we also should rejoice in sufferings and trials. The Christian life is not a Sunday school picnic, but there is reason for rejoicing. The Lord does what is best for His Body.
