The April Doorpost

And David said, "The Lord Who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
I Samuel 17:37a

All of the fighting men of Israel were afraid to fight Goliath. Not one of them was willing to rise to the challenge. David was ready to take the challenge. What was the difference?

The other men were focusing on the power of their enemy. David was focusing on the power of His God. David had a zeal for honoring God. He could hardly believe that anyone would dare to be so disrespectful of God. In verse 26 and again in verse 36 he exclaims, “…he (Goliath) has defied the armies of the living God.”

David also had experience trusting God in dangerous circumstances. He had depended on God to help him fight the lion and the bear, so he knew God was able to give victory against Goliath.

In this month’s cover story we are reminded that Jesus Christ is able to do far more than all that we can ask or think, according to the power at work within us. We need to do things that build God’s Kingdom, even if we are fearful, weak, or inadequate. We can trust God to give us courage, strength, and ability. And when we see Him work through us, we will be able to trust Him for even greater things, just like David did.
