Here are the 10 essential oils most recommended by Jan Scott, a Wyoming Samaritan Ministries member who teaches classes on their use and also sells oils:

  1. Lavender. Good on burns, sunburns, scrapes, bruises, insect bites, general pain, and teething.
  2. Lemon. Detoxifies the body “and is especially recommended for gout since it breaks up uric acid.” It also can purify drinking water, fights allergies along with peppermint and lavender. Also good for cleaning.
  3. Peppermint. Relieves headaches with lavender, sharpens mentally, repels ants and mice, “also very useful for asthma, diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn, itchy skin, and a host of other uses.”
  4. Melaleuca, also known as tea tree oil. Useful for skin disorders, such as toenail fungus, ringworm, warts, and more.
  5. Oregano. “Nature’s antibiotic.” Helps fight bronchitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, MRSA, pneumonia, and whooping cough.
  6. Frankincense. Insect and snake bites, high blood pressure, tuberculosis, headaches, tension, and pneumonia. Also believed to be effective on damaged skin.
  7. Citrus oils like orange, tangerine, lime, and grapefruit. The last can be used for weight loss, fatigue, jet lag, stress, and migraines.
  8. Clove. Classic aid for toothaches and also works on fighting smoking urges, cataracts, termites, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, and corns.
  9. Ginger. Good for digestive issues like diarrhea, morning sickness, nausea, and motion sickness.
  10. Helichrysum. Helps to stop bleeding, bruises, tinnitus, vertigo, stroke, swollen eyes, and other wounds.
