Fruitful Friends: Filled with the Spirit, written by Dana Orr and illustrated by Ellen Abramo ($12.99, 32 pages, Fruitful Friends LLC). To purchase, go to fruitfulfriends.com.

Galatians 5:22-23 tells us what the fruits of the Holy Spirit are, and Fruitful Friends: Filled with the Spirit shows children how to know them and how to bear them.

The picture book, written in rhyme by Samaritan member Dana Orr, defines each of the nine fruits and demonstrates how to exhibit one of the spiritual fruits:

  • “Goodness is choosing what is right/With God’s help, bad choices we fight.”
  • “Charity, God tells us is best/Putting others before ourselves is the test.”

It also encourages children to ask for the fruits to be present in their lives.

The book isn’t all there is to the effort, though. At fruitfulfriends.com, you’ll find activities such as games, charts, and songs related to the book’s theme.

More books in the Fruitful Friends series are planned.

Dana Orr is a member of Samaritan Ministries.
