Our heavenly Father knows what we need

“For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:32-34
I imagine most of us would like to choose to not be anxious about tomorrow. Or anything else. But a non-anxious life doesn’t happen because we will it to happen, even if it is a command from Scripture. Jesus isn’t advocating self-help. This isn’t about human effort.
He wants our hearts. Our trust. The relaxing of our “white knuckles.” See, anxiety is like a smoke alarm, alerting us to something deeper going on. Jesus wants us to know that “our heavenly Father knows …” Well, what does He know? For starters, He knows exactly what we “need.” He knows “all” we need. More than that, He is a good, good Father who loves to give good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11)!
Your heavenly Father sees you. He loves you. He has a plan. Tomorrow’s troubles won’t catch Him by surprise, just like today’s didn’t catch Him by surprise. He’s with you today, and He won’t ever leave your side. Nothing can separate you from His love.
Yes, each day brings its own trouble. But, each day brings God’s grace, presence, and love for you.
