Noteworthy: 'Tis the season when the Lord does 'a new thing'

Being well into the spring season, most of us are observing quite a few flowers and trees “springing” up.

As I witness what was dead come to life, I think of Isaiah 43:19, which says, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (NIV).

While we may believe that God is up to something new, it can sometimes be difficult to perceive it. Maybe we’re waiting expectantly for a breakthrough, deliverance, healing, or provision. And we think we see the new thing starting to spring up, but then … WHAM! Setbacks and storms seem to refute any notion of there being a “way in the wilderness” or a “stream in the wasteland.”

However, despite our momentary discouragement, we know from God’s character and His past faithfulness that He in fact is ALWAYS doing a new thing. And what God has purposed to do in, around, and through us … surely He will accomplish it, despite the evil one’s attempt to thwart that new work (Philippians 1:6, Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:10).
