Member messages: Peace flows through sharing

By Samaritan members  ·  Dec 21, 2023

This past winter I was snowplowing a newly laid amount of snow but forgot about a layer of ice. The electrical cord of the plow came unplugged and as I made my way to plug it back in, I slipped and fell, breaking my wrist. Yet, even as I sat there, the thought went through my mind that I was so glad that I was a member of Samaritan Ministries. Although there is some work involved on my part with the medical bills, it is so worth it. What a blessing to see not only checks coming in but to receive the notes and prayers as well.

We have been extremely blessed by the financial support provided to us through Samaritan Ministries members. We have incurred a lot more expenses this year and the bill for my wife’s emergency room visit came at a time that we already had more bills than our bank account could handle. The Shares we received lifted a huge financial load and gave us some room to breathe. We are so, so thankful to be a part of this ministry, and have been extremely blessed by all the wonderful members and staff involved. We thank God for His provision through Samaritan.

Three days before Christmas 2022, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Although a member of Samaritan Ministries for several years, I had never had or submitted a Need, so I was new to the process and feeling very overwhelmed by all the “what ifs.” When we first contacted a representative from Samaritan Ministries to discuss our Need, we were so thankful for the gracious compassion and spiritual encouragement we received. It was also a comfort knowing that the members of Samaritan were praying for us as we began to experience the “peace that passes all understanding.” Now on the other side of surgery, we are thanking God for the real sense of His presence that we have experienced throughout this journey. Each note we have received from God’s people along with their Share has also been a great encouragement and blessing to us. Thankfully, my surgery and recovery went well, and there has been no need for additional cancer treatment. We are so thankful for Samaritan Ministries and the opportunity to now be a blessing to others.

Our daughter tore her ACL during a basketball game. This led her into a difficult time of surgery, bed rest, and rehabilitation. She was also sidelined for 6 months, missing the first half of her senior year in sports. As she was recuperating, I kept bringing her handwritten letters from people she did not know who stated that they were praying for her. I could see the effect it was having on her. Each note and each prayer were a gift of encouragement and hope as she waited for her return to sports. We are so thankful for the notes and the prayers. This ministry is a good example of what it means to share in life together. We take my responsibility to pray for the Needs we receive more seriously now as we know how much those letters mean.
