Member messages: Fellow members fulfill their promises

By Samaritan members  ·  May 16, 2024

As a new pastor in a small town, we were having trouble paying our monthly health insurance premiums for our family of five. We dropped our insurance temporarily. Shortly thereafter, the Affordable Care Act was launched, and every insurance agency was calling to ask if we would be interested in signing up. Of course, we were interested in having insurance again. I gladly accepted the chance to talk to various representatives. With the last one, I mentioned I was considering a health care sharing ministry. Right away, the agent warned me that health care sharing is not insurance and there is a chance that people will not pay up on their promises. My mind immediately filled with stories from people I knew whose health insurance failed to pay for a variety of reasons. We have been blessed to be a part of Samaritan Ministries for some 10 years now. We are grateful to know where God’s money is going every month, by name and by cause. We have only had a few Needs, but each time our fellow members fulfilled their promises. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15).

God has blessed me with greater trust in His provision and care through my brothers and sisters in Christ. The beautiful cards and notes of encouragement that Samaritan members sent have been very uplifting. This Need shared by Samaritan members is yet another reminder that the Samaritan Ministries model for sharing medical expenses is far superior to the insurance model. It is refreshing to have the freedom to choose the medical provider of my choice and not be limited to a network or be subjected to other restrictions designed to limit access to providers and medical care. Thank you and God bless.

My recent Need was the birth of my son. When I was 18 weeks pregnant, my husband was killed in a car accident. There were no medical bills associated with his death, as, by the mercy of God, he died instantly. Nonetheless, the outpouring of love and prayer after notifying Samaritan of his death was astonishing.

My situation was listed in the monthly Prayer Guide, and I was flooded with prayers, letters, notes, and financial gifts. This was such an unexpected blessing.

I went on to give birth to a healthy baby boy. The financial needs of his birth were met by Samaritan Ministries members, for which I am grateful, but it was the prayers from members and staff with their outpouring of love that have made all the difference.
