Member Letter: We started a regular donation to the Member Assistance Fund

We have been members of Samaritan almost 10 years. In the early years of our membership, we gave sporadically to the Member Assistance Fund. However, a few years ago the thought came to us that we are saving a lot of money by not having to pay exorbitant health insurance premiums. Why not share a small portion of that savings regularly with Samaritan members who had special needs that were not eligible for regular sharing under the Guidelines? So we set up an automatic recurring donation each month to the Member Assistance Fund.

Then about 6 months ago my wife, Alberta, needed a dental implant and bone grafting. As this was quite expensive and outside our budget for regular dental care, I submitted the special need to Samaritan and was approved. The gifts we received were a big help in offsetting the higher-than-average costs of our dental care for this year. I encourage other members to consider the savings they reap by being members of Samaritan and share a small portion of those savings with members who have special needs.
