Medical ads are nothing new

It’s hard to watch a few minutes of TV without running into an ad urging you to ask your doctor to put you on some medication or other. But such ads are nothing new. The MedGadget blog, which actually specializes in pointing out technological innovations in medicine, linked to an exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art showcasing medical ads of past years.

The prints are from around the world and were collected by a man named William Helfland starting in the 1950s.

Nothing says “good health,” not to mention “charm,” like a dose of “bile beans.”
