Jesus offers us a different way to confront what's broken

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen One in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on Him, and He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise His voice in the streets.”
Isaiah 42:1-2
The temperature of our public conversation keeps rising. Social media offers a way too easy channel for us humans to “shout” or “cry out” in public. Many times, our selfish nature is thwarted and the 2-year-old in us screams or shouts out, “Mine!” or “Not Fair!” Sometimes, we have a righteous anger over injustice—a real wrong needs naming and addressing.
But Jesus shows a different way to confront what’s broken.
Jesus brought justice to the nations without volume. No mob, no megaphone. Instead of noisily shouting in a clamorous, disputatious way, Jesus spoke Truth with gentleness, humility, and meekness.
As a Jesus follower, I want to do the same and I bet you do, too. This can look like refusing the quick post that wounds or choosing a quiet word that heals.
May the Holy Spirit quiet our minds and mouths so that when we speak, we would do so truthfully, quietly, humbly, and gently. And when justice is at stake, may we express conviction and courage without contempt and cruelty.
