It’s simple: Health care sharing saves you money

Last week, we shared on our Facebook page that the average out-of-pocket health insurance costs for a family of four is $19,393 this year, and that a year’s worth of shares and fees for a Samaritan family of four is a little more than $4,000. (Source: CNN.)
The same report from actuarial consulting firm Millman Inc. also shows that “The employee portion of costs paid for a family of four covered by the most common form of employer-sponsored health insurance will climb to a projected $8,008 this year from $3,634 in 2002.” (Source: Associated Press.)
In other words, insurance plans offered by employers still cost an average of more than double Samaritan’s cost for a family of four.
What a health care sharing ministry like Samaritan offers is, of course, different in some ways from health insurance (check out our Guidelines). We believe, though, that health care sharing ultimately is a better deal, both financially and, especially, spiritually. In addition to lower costs, HCSM members pray for each other. We also know that our shares aren’t going to support unbiblical lifestyles or behaviors.
