In Prayer: Work hard, live quietly for the Kingdom

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1-4

How are Christians to relate to the people around them? We pointed out that we are to pray for everyone, in particular those in authority. This week, we are considering the intention of these prayers—a peaceful and quiet life.

This does not mean we are to live passive, self-indulgent lives. We are to work to advance God’s Kingdom, living our lives quietly and peacefully with others, including those in authority. We will face opposition and conflict, even persecution, but we must respond by continuing to obey God and proclaim His Word, with quiet, peaceful confidence.

We are to pray for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life.
