In Prayer: We elect people who are like us
By Mike Miller · Nov 05, 2012
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
These verses instruct us to pray “for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions…” As we think about and pray for those who are in high positions in our society, we need to reflect how they get in those positions—we elect them. Ultimately, those who are elected reflect the values and character of those who do the electing.
We need to pray for those in high positions, and we need to pray for all people. We need to pray for everyone to have a desire for Biblical truth to be exalted and obeyed in our society, and for falsehood and evil to be opposed. It needs to start with all of us. When we, the voters, desire those things, we will elect leaders who desire those kinds of things.
We need to pray for everyone, and for those in high positions, so that we may lead a peaceful, quiet, godly and dignified life, so that people will come to a knowledge of the truth and be saved.
In Prayer is taken from past Samaritan Prayer Guides.
