In prayer: Pray with a thankful heart
By Mike Miller · Mar 07, 2012
And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Colossians 1:9-12
As children of God, we should be a thankful people. We have the best reason possible—God the Father through Jesus Christ has made us qualified to share in the inheritance of the saints.
We have received a gift we did not deserve and could not earn. Thankfulness is the only appropriate response to such grace and mercy.
Our thankfulness is to be directed to the Father through “our Lord Jesus Christ” and, according to Ephesians 5:20, is for all times and all things. In Colossians 3:17 we read, “And whatever you do, in word (whether spoken or thought) or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” A heart of thankfulness will be evident at all times in all places and through all actions.
Do you and I have this heart attitude? Do the believers we know have this attitude? We should pray for a heart of thankfulness.
