‘Healthy 4 Life’ from the Weston A. Price Foundation
By Jed Stuber · Nov 01, 2011
For decades, many Americans have relied on the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Pyramid for guidance in determining a healthy diet. In the mid-1960s, major changes were made in the USDA’s advice, and since that time there has been a significant increase in diabetes and obesity among Americans. In 2010 some changes were made in the USDA Food Pyramid, but many of the basic recommendations remained unchanged.
For several years, the Weston A. Price Foundation has offered alternative advice to that given by the USDA, and they have recently released Healthy 4 Life, a booklet that contains their guidelines and a chart to illustrate their plan. The booklet has many recipes from every food group, plus information about how to shop for healthy foods, vegetarianism, metabolism, sweeteners, lacto-fermentation, cholesterol, pregnancy and nursing, and cooking utensils. There is also information about the political pressures that were responsible for the changes in the USDA Guidelines.
