Ephesians 2:4-7: We’re already ‘seated’ with Christ

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:4-7

God ” raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus …”

When we read passages like this one, we sometimes attach a different meaning to them without even thinking about it. We subconsciously change the meaning so it agrees with what we already think, instead of realizing exactly what is being said and letting the Word of God change our thinking. When this happens, we can completely miss an important truth God is telling us.

The verse above says “seated” with Christ. It doesn’t say “will seat.” It doesn’t say “will be seated.” It is telling us something that has already happened. We believers in Christ are already seated with Christ in the heavenly realms.

This isn’t something we can understand from our daily experience. We need God’s Word to tell us. In the coming ages He will show us the incomparable riches of His grace, but we are already seated with Christ right now. It’s not something we have to wait for. It’s something we have right now.

For the Kingdom,
