Look for an opportunity to encourage someone today like Tychicus did

Tychicus will tell you all about my activities. He is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts.

Colossians 4:7-8

Imagine for a moment readers first hearing the words above. What may be viewed as merely “wrapping up” near the end of this letter holds a great example of ordinary, Gospel ministry.

Paul writes with confidence that sending Tychicus to the saints at Colossae will encourage their hearts. Encourage their hearts. What a glorious statement. It ought to inspire each of us. Like an ace relief pitcher, the presence of Tychicus would calm things down in stormy times.

Like us, the Christians then had perplexing seasons when they were frazzled and fragile. There were threats to their joy and peace in Jesus. The presence of this beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant would speak volumes in the apostles’ absence.

We all have different gifts, personalities, and roles to play in the Body of Christ. But like Tychicus, we each ought to bring an aroma of love and life into every place we are sent.

Be on the lookout for someone to encourage today!
