The Doorpost: The end of all things is at hand

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
1 Peter 4:7
When we see the current turmoil in the world, we can realize that “the end of all things is at hand.” Yet it was nearly 2,000 years ago when the Apostle Peter wrote these words. What should we be doing today?
Read what Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 24:6-14 about His coming and the close of the age. He said there would be wars and rumors of wars. “See that you are not alarmed … the end is not yet.” He said nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. ”All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.”
He warned that “they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death ... And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”
He said that during this tumultuous time, “this Gospel of the Kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
What should we be doing today?
Be sober-minded and self-controlled. Pray. Love. Proclaim the Gospel.
The end of all things is at hand.
