Digital sharing available now to all members

Digital sharing is now available to all Samaritan Ministries members, offering a better sharing experience, new member-to-member ministry connections, and an in-house platform that’s more secure.

You can sign up for digital sharing by signing in to your Dashboard account.

“Digital sharing is a sleek, modern tool designed to further our mission—to love the Body of Christ through sharing one another’s health care burdens and experiencing biblical community,” said Ethan Hopp, senior program manager at Samaritan Ministries. “We wanted to pair the benefits of digital payment methods with a fully integrated experience that lives in the Dashboard, allowing members to focus on what’s important—ministering to their brothers and sisters in Christ in their time of need.”

Why use digital sharing?

Your sharing experience will be enhanced in several ways.

  • You can share with greater security and without leaving the Dashboard.
  • You can send and receive digital notes of encouragement with other members.
  • Your received Shares will be tracked for you in the checklist.
  • There will be faster resolution of any payment issues.

“Digital sharing provides an enhanced sharing experience where you don’t have to leave your Dashboard to send your Share, and everything is tracked in your Dashboard (including your checklist!),” Ethan said. “Plus, you can experience community in a new way through digital notes of encouragement and a safer member-to-member sharing experience, removing risks presented by PayPal and similar systems.”

Not only can you send digital notes of encouragement, you can also reply digitally to members who have written you a note and see a history of every note that you receive or send.

Member-to-member sharing through Samaritan is safer because there is no risk of being deplatformed by a third-party financial service, and you avoid the potential tax implications of sharing through PayPal.

Members are loving it

Members who have signed up for the new platform love it.

Christa of Oregon called it a “huge improvement.”

“The sharing process is now nearly effortless, and I can ensure no checks are lost in the mail (which has happened twice sending shares),” she wrote.

Quinn, who lives in Tennessee, said it’s “so much easier and more up to date than PayPal or sending a paper check.”

“Thank you for rolling this out and keeping sharing inside the Dashboard,” he said.
In his feedback, Doug of Ohio said, “Since the Share was sent so quickly and easily, I cannot think of any way it could be improved.

“I love it, so much easier than using PayPal,” he wrote.

Kristan, also of Ohio, called it “a convenient, streamlined way to share needs.”

Steve from Indiana said the digital sharing platform “will save me a ton of time.”

“Overall, I LOVE this and have been waiting for something like this as it’s so much better,” he wrote.

How it works

Here’s how digital sharing works:

1. Connect your bank account.

Provide your checking account to set up digital sharing in the Dashboard so you can send and receive funds directly to and from other members.

2. Send your Share from the Dashboard.

Each month, sign in to the Dashboard to send your Share, which will transfer from your bank account directly to the receiving member. Since we want you to be in control of your transfer, Samaritan will not transfer the money automatically like in an auto-draft arrangement.

3. The Share is delivered.

Members receive funds in their bank account without needing to manually track them.

A $5 portion of your Share will be redirected to help with the costs of this way of sharing. It will not cost you anything as a member to participate in digital sharing.

Accuracy and transparency

Digital sharing with Samaritan also has the advantage of accuracy and transparency in the sharing process.

“Checklists are updated automatically, there’s no risk of Shares going to the wrong member, and there’s greater visibility than ever before as to where your Share is at in the sharing process,” Hopp said. “Members can send digital notes of encouragement to one another and experience community in a new way. Don’t worry, members still have the opportunity to send a physical note of encouragement, too!”

You’ll be able to send your Share and note of encouragement any time after you receive your monthly Share assignment. Just like an automated clearing house (ACH) funds transfer you’d do anywhere else, the transaction may take three to five business days to clear your account. After that, the Share will be available to the receiving member within one to three business days.

If you are paired with a member who does not currently use digital sharing, a check will be sent to them on your behalf after you send your Share from the Dashboard, so you still won’t be required to do anything by paper.

“We genuinely believe that digital sharing provides a better member experience for everyone,” Ethan said. “If you’re sending your Share, it’s never been easier. If you’re receiving Shares, you have one less thing to keep track of because we’ll keep track of it all for you.”
