WebMD is the second most visit health website in the world, next to the National Institutes of Health. Is WebMD “independent and objective”? Dr. Joseph Mercola points out big pharmaceutical companies wield their influence at WebMD. The drugmaker, Eli Lilly, is one big sponsor, and WebMD directs its readers to Lilly’s anti-depressant.

WebMD was also one of the first private companies to become a partner of the FDA. Mercola writes, “For every ailment that WebMD presents, you get the corresponding pharmaceutical option that the FDA wants you to take. The safe, inexpensive alternatives and strategies that can help improve your health are ignored.”

Mercola takes a different approach, promoting a limited number of products he personally researches, tests, uses, and recommends. DrMercola.com is now the third most visited health website on the internet.
