Noteworthy: God cares about all aspects of our wellness
by Rob Waldo · May 23, 2023
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.
(3 John 2)
In the Apostle John’s day, it was common to wish good health for someone when writing letters. John does more—he prays for well-being for the whole person.
Without question, suffering and trials are part of our experience this side of Heaven. Scripture is also clear that we should seek the well-being of our communities, our churches, our families … even our own selves.
God cares about all our wellness: spiritual, interpersonal, physical, emotional, intellectual, and behavioral. Faithfully stewarding God’s gifts to us in these areas is part of how we can love God and fulfill the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:34-40).
This month’s newsletter discusses our physical well-being. Although our physical bodies are aging “earthly tents,” Jesus’ ministry of healing reveals how much God cares about our aging bodies. While we’re beyond excited for our promised glorified bodies, until then, and through trials, let’s faithfully steward these “earthly tents” as best as we can.
